A man was arrested in connection with a series of car burglaries at fitness gyms in Riverside, authorities said Friday.

Oscar Mandujano Quinonez, 31, of Perris was arrested around 10 a.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of Canyon Springs Parkway, Riverside police said.

Officers were patrolling the area due to a recent series of vehicle burglaries and were aware a white and gray Hyundai Santa Fe was seen on video from at least five of the burglaries, police said. They spotted the vehicle.

After contacting Quinonez in the parking lot of an LA Fitness they learned he was on probation for burglary and had stolen property in his vehicle, police said.

More stolen property was found during a search of the suspect’s Appletree Lane residence in Perris, they said.

Quinonez later admitted to breaking into cars in gym parking lots and taking purses, sunglasses, watches, cellphones, chargers and other small items, police said.

Quinonez was arrested and booked into jail on charges of vehicle burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property and probation violations, police said.

People who visit gyms were urged to make sure their vehicles are locked with all windows rolled up and with any valuables secured out of sight in the trunk, police said.
